Later this year, in order to accommodate drivers with compatible iPhones, Honda will be offering the latest telematics technology from Apple into the 2013 Honda Accord.
Honda is planning to incorporate the Siri technology into select 2013 Honda and Acura models. You can expect to see the Siri “Eyes Free” system introduced on the 2013 Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX models.
Focusing on driver safety and reducing the number of distracted drivers on smart phones and behind the wheel, Honda will be implementing a new way to
access your device through the in-car system. Because Apple’s Siri technology with seamless voice commands seems to be far more advanced than the current voice-activated systems being used by current automakers, this switch is a no-brainer.
The Siri system allows for seamless integration between the in-car user interface and a supported device equipped with iOS. Users can activate Siri’s “Eyes Free” mode, which allows the phone and voice commands to be activated by the user without lighting the phone screen. Coordinating with the vehicle’s speakers and microphones, Siri is able to perform its various functions and features.
In order to utilize the dealer-added feature, the new Siri technology will require iOS 6 software, a working iPhone 4S/ 5, iPad 4G/3G, iPad mini, and iPod touch 5G, and an Internet connection.
